The BCCI has released the schedule for the initial 21 matches of IPL 2024. This time, IPL will kick off on March 22 in Chennai. The tournament opener will be between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

BCCI Announces Release Date for Remaining Schedule

The BCCI has announced that the schedule for the remaining IPL matches will be released after the announcement of the general election dates. According to the statement, the board will work in collaboration with the government and security agencies, adhering to all necessary protocols and guidelines related to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Once the dates for the 18th Lok Sabha elections are announced, the board will review any issues related to the schedule of the remaining 21 matches and finalize it. The final matches of the remaining season will be scheduled in consultation with local authorities, considering the polling dates.

IPL 2024: A Brief Overview

IPL 2024 will follow a format similar to the 2023 season, featuring 74 matches. While the previous IPL lasted for 60 days, IPL 2024 might extend up to 67 days. Due to the general elections, there’s a possibility of a one-week extension in the IPL schedule. Similar approaches were taken during the 2019 general elections when the IPL schedule was split into two parts. The IPL final is likely to be held on May 26.
